OOC: LOG ‘You definitely have gotten used to me’

Jun 28, 2008 01:27

Who: Jack thedashinghero and Angel ihaveasoul
When: Tonight
Where: Dienw
What: Jack coming to say goodbye and opening out his heart to Angel, both getting bumbed out, then much aww.
Why: Because they’re BFF’s and the world is about to end. They had to be allowed to say goodbye to one another.

Jack let everyone know he was popping over to Dienw for a captainly chat with Angel before programming the coordinates into his manipulator and appearing in his office. He took a look around, raising an eyebrow at all the weapons. "What did I tell you about weapons like these, they won't help," he sighed, shaking his head.

Angel gave a shrug, putting down a broadsword. "Organising my weapons gives me something to focus on", he said, "It's better than sulking in a corner and biting everyone's head off" He glanced over at Jack. "How're you holding up?"

"I've been better," Jack chuckled, wandering over to him. "I took Ianto back in time to see his mother," he said quietly, his gaze distant and old.

"Oh", Angel frowned, nodding in understanding, "Yeah, I can see how that'd be rough. Is he okay?"

"As okay as a man who has a very high chance of dying tomorrow can be," Jack replied, sighing. "Doyle's probably trying the hardest of all of us to keep things light-hearted, even though he's in the same boat as Ianto."

"Yeah....Doyle's good at that", said Angel quietly, a small fond smile crossing his face, even if his eyes were sad, "Has been since I met him. It's very hard to brood about your past errors when you have someone like him making you cheer up"

"Yeah, I noticed," Jack replied with an equally fond smile, before pulling him into a hug. "I'm going to do everything I can, Angel, to make sure everyone stays safe."

Angel blinked, awkwardly hugging him back, he never did get this hugging business quite right. "I know you will, and hell, if it comes down to a fight, then fight we will"

"Oh it will," Jack murmured, chuckling again at Angel's awkwardness before pulling back a little, looking at him. "Angel...if I don't survive this, I wanted to thank you. For being the best friend any guy could ever have."

Angel smiled soft brown eyes watching him. "You're welcome, Jack. You were for me, too, really, it kinda surprised me"

"Was I really?" Jack asked, returning the smile. "That's good to know," he murmured, before pulling him into a slow, passionate kiss that you'd have to be crazy to resist.

Angel's eyes widened as he moved to back-pedal away, only to bump against his desk. He was sure the thing had moved since he last stood by it. He frowned, considering his position and a good method escape. Of course, while his Angel-brain was working all this out, his Liam-brain had gone 'yippie' and taken over the working of the lips, kissing the captain back.

Jack relaxed into the kiss when he felt Angel respond, deepening it as he slid his arms around him, resisting the urge to close his eyes. He wanted to savour this moment, especially if it was his last chance.

Angel gave a soft rumbling purr in response before his brain caught up with what the rest of his brain was trying to do and he pulled back, moving Jack away with arms that hid a lot more strength than they used. "Jack, I can't", he said, a hurt frown crossing his face, "We've been though this, I'm married, and I love Spike, more than anything in the world"

"But you love me too," Jack murmured, not backing down after that. "You love me, hell, you love Doyle. You're just like me and Owen. You shouldn't have to hide who you are, you do that enough."

Angel sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm not that guy, anymore, Jack, yeah, he's still in there, but I want to be with just one person now", he shrugged, "I've done the lots of partners thing, I'm done with it now. I'm sorry, I know it's not what you want to hear, but it's the truth".
He frowned, looking away.
"I was stupid to let someone get this close, you've only got the wrong idea, and that's not a safe place to be"

Jack stepped closer, turning Angel's face to him gently. "Angel. Listen to me. I haven't got the wrong idea. This isn't about lots of partners or one partners or whatever. I love you. I love you for the beautiful person you are. Brave, loyal, kind, understanding, supportive, handsome....you're amazing, and it would've been impossible for me not to have fallen for you even if you hadn't let me in. And none of that will ever change, no matter if you return my feelings or not. I just needed you to understand, because come tomorrow I might not be around to tell you anymore."

Angel watched him for a few long minutes before sighing. "Thank you, Jack....I really wish you didn't feel like that", he shrugged, "For one I feel crummy when I break people's hearts and for another it makes you extremely easy bait for the nutjob I was created to lock away"

"You haven't broken my heart," Jack replied, smiling. "Don't think that. You're still here, being my best friend, and that means the world to me. My heart is only broken when it's left. And I was already easy bait for him. Have been since the moment I met you," he chuckled.

"I won't leave, well unless I'm forced out of this body at any rate", Angel promised gently, "But I can't give you what you'd really want either. I do love you, Jack...but not in the same way". He gave a small shrug. "Will, he's my soul mate, we joke about it, but it's true. I really don't think I could exist without him"

"I know you couldn't, I would never ask you to," Jack murmured, shaking his head. "That would be like me leaving Ianto. I could never do it. Even though I'll have to tomorrow, in all likelihood," he added, his voice breaking.

Angel watched him, before sighing, pulling Jack into a hug. "You'll fight this, Jack", he said, "It's no good thinking about things like that, they'll put you out of focus and that's when things go wrong. This is a guy who survived the Predator world, while looking after you after you died. He's a lot stronger than you realise"

"I know he's strong," Jack said softly, leaning against Angel. "He's one of the strongest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. But he knows just as well as I do that you can't fight Daleks."

"Can't fight the armies of hell, either", said Angel, letting him lean against his unbreathing, unbeating chest, "But we still tried. Even when it looks as bad as it can get, trying is still important"

"Yeah," Jack agreed, another tired sigh escaping him as he rested against Angel. "Angel....would you mind if the baby's middle name was Liam?" he asked, glancing up at him.

Angel blinked, genuinely surprised. "You want the middle name to be after me?", he asked softly.

"Yeah," Jack smiled, nodding. "You're my best friend, Angel. I wouldn't choose anyone else."

A proper smile crossed Angel's face. "I...thank you, Jack", he said, "It.. it would be an honour"

Jack beamed, hugging him again. "'Course, I'll have to clear it with Ianto, but I'm sure he won't mind. I'm letting him pick the first name, after all," he chuckled.

Angel chuckled, patting his back with a big hand. "I'm still touched, Jack", he said, "Really, the most I'm used to is being poked fun at for having a goofy name"

"It's not that goofy," Jack replied, smiling. "Trust me, I've known people with goofier names than Liam. Hell I've shagged people with goofier names."

Angel laughed. "Considering you've shagged other life forms, that really doesn't surprise me", he said, "Or it might not surprise me just because I've got used to you" He smiled. "Still, thanks"

"You're welcome. And you definitely have gotten used to me, you don't blush when I flirt with you anymore," Jack teased.

Angel smirked. "Could be I got immune", he teased back, before tilting his head to one side, "Feeling better?"

"Yeah, much," Jack answered, nodding. "I should prolly get back, we've not got long now."

"Yeah", Angel frowned softly, before leaning in, kissing his forehead gently, "It's been great, Jack, and we'll all see each other on the other side of this"

"I hope so," Jack murmured, eyes closing a bit at the kiss to his forehead. "If not...I love you, Angel." He kissed him again, still full of passion, but briefer than the last. "Watch after them," he murmured, before programming the coordinates for the Hub into his manipulator.

Angel allowed the kiss, but didn't return it, before sighing, nodding. "I will, I promise", he smiled a little, "My lot are stronger than they look"

"I know," Jack replied sadly, nodding. "I'll do what I can, Angel," he said again, offering him a brilliant smile before stepping into the vortex.

"Me too", Angel smiled, watching him vanish off into it.
