Since I got back from Egypt I have been working lettuce fields (chasa) which has been so amazing. My old job at the Miznon, which is the Yotvata Restaurant, was fun because they had really nice people working and I got to practice my hebrew on a daily basis, but Chasa (lettuce) is way better. Chasa is in a giant green house in the middle of the desert so the tempurature indoors in pleasent. Work consists of cutting lettuce, planting lettuce, cleaning lettuce containers, packaging lettuce (which gets sent up north to Rishon where Shira lives) and on the occasion kicking, raking, throwing, and eating lettuce occurs. When I first started I wasn’t speaking that much hebrew because I would just speak with the other volunteers and worker Geoff, an American who made Aliyah 3 years ago and moved to Israel. However cute boy syndrome is the best motivation to learn a language, because cute boy Yitzik works in Chasa. We converse in hebrew and though I have been determined to conquer hebrew during my stay in Israel, now it’s 10 fold.Thank goodness for cute boy syndrome.
