So I enjoyed making the mini-poem based on Holzer's "Love and Other Catastrophes: A Mix Tape," and I figured I'd go ahead and do that again for this entry. It'll be a little more abstract than Holzer's poem, but, hey, what can you do? My rules for this poem are that I have to use songs that I know fairly well and that I can use songs from a single artist twice at most. Oh, and the songs don't have to have the mood that their titles convey. So, I guess, here we go:
"Lonely Girls," Lucinda Williams. "Blowin' in the Wind," Bob Dylan. "Classic Girl," Jane's Addiction. "A Smile that Explodes," Joseph Arthur. "The Boy with the Thorn in His Side," The Smiths. "You May Know Him," Cat Power. "I Was a Stranger," Smog. "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand," Primitive Radio Gods. "Where Am I Now?" Shelby Lynne. "Everyone Knows This is Nowhere," Neil Young with Crazy Horse. "Walk With Me," Moby. "Whenever You See Fit," Modest Mouse with 764-Hero. "How Soon is Now?" The Smiths. "Alone, Together," The Strokes. "The Dark of the Matinee," Franz Ferdinand. "Sleepwalkin'," Modest Mouse. "Between the Bars," Elliott Smith. "Voices in the Mall," The Clientele. "Walk in the Park," Beach House. "Velvet Waltz," Built to Spill. "Fade into You," Mazzy Star. "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate," The Flaming Lips. "Where Gravity is Dead," Laura Veirs. "We Are Nowhere and It's Now," Bright Eyes. "This is Love," PJ Harvey. "Let's Never Stop Falling in Love," Pink Martini. "It's a Wonderful Life," Sparklehorse. "Down the River of Golden Dreams," Okkervil River. "Into the Woods," My Morning Jacket. "Things Go on with Mistakes," The Black Heart Procession with Solbakken. "Climbing a Hill," Quickspace. "Second Guessing," R.E.M. "Lost in Space," Aimee Mann. "Suddenly Everything Has Changed," The Flaming Lips. "What Do You Want Me to Say?" The Dismemberment Plan. "So Long to the Holidays," Ugly Casanova. "Heaven is Full," Under the Influence of Giants. "Keep the Streets Empty for Me," Fever Ray. "Because," The Beatles. "I Would Hurt a Fly," Built to Spill. "And It Rained All Night," Thom Yorke. "Silent Sigh," Badly Drawn Boy. "Silent Shout," The Knife. "Get Me Away from Here, I'm Dying!" Belle & Sebastian. "Please Do Not Go," Violent Femmes. "Selfless, Cold & Composed," Ben Folds Five. "Too Late," M83. "Too Tired," DeVotchKa. "Goodbye Stranger," Supertramp. "So Long, Lonesome," Explosions in the Sky.
So, yeah, it's not that great. And towards the end there, when I was trying to fill the gaps with something, it wasn't all that fun. But it wasn't that bad, all in all. Anyway, I guess that's it for this week.
