This is going to make little sense to anyone who hasn't read some of the fantabulous Eighth Doctor Adventures books. But lullabee_lj and I were reading some old reviews of them and lol'ing over how often the reviewers would insist on Eight's TOTALLY NOT GAY-ness. Having read many of the books ourselves, we find this hilarious.

This was the result.

Eight is so gay, and Eight/Fitz is totally canon. And I haven't even read any EDAs (but I really have to). So he told Charley he loved her, whatever. He's still gay.
Or at least bi, seeing as he also totally had Bernice Summerfield.

I don't mind him being bi, as I think he probably had Benny too (though, was that EDA!Eight? the timelines are a bit confusing). Just all the reviews saying he's TOTALLY STRAIGHT are lolarious and, well, wrong.

Not EDA!Eight, but NA!Eight, in the final Virgin book, The Dying Days. It has some interesting bits (like when someone mistakes Benny for Emma Thompson and she's all "wut?" about it), and there's a moment at the end that I wish I could be able to see Paul McGann doing, but at times I feel he treats Benny a little bit colder and unpleasant than he would in any other media.

I will avoid NA!Eight then. Even the coldness of BFA!Eight throws me off when I listen to the audios. This is why Company of Friends: Fitz's Story didn't work for me. BFA!Eight is NOT EDA!Eight. Everyone seemed out of character in that audio, despite Cole's best efforts.

Dying Days is the only NA with Eight, so thankfully you don't miss much if you skip it (it just helps explain what Benny meant in The Company of Friends when she said she and Eight "shook hands"). The fact that it was written by Parkin makes me wonder how NA!Eight would have sounded written by someone else, though.
And I can't help but love "Fitz's Story" in spite of its flaws - but for some odd reason the fact that Eight remembers Sam bugs me more than the rest, even if the casting/characterization doesn't fit my personal canon.

SAME HERE. Then again, there is no way Cole could have explained the amnesia thing in that 25 minute audio, which in turn takes a lot of meaning out of Fitz and the Doctor's relationship. So. Yeah.
