Valentine's Day weekend - overdue update

Feb 21, 2009 18:12

I promised myself last week I'd blog about the perfectly wonderful Valentine's Day/birthday/anniversary weekend we had, but it was immediately followed by the perfectly horrible, absolutely stressful, mind-bogglingly busy work week. I didn't even do my online tea-tasting class homework!

So now, here it is:

Friday night the high school cheerleaders offered "Kid's night Out" wherein they take you children for four hours and amuse them with games, movies, and whatnot for only $10/kid. Score! time to take the wife out for a once-a-year kind of romantic dinner date and perfect timing too!

So I surprised her with dinner at Nimbus, the very fancy and expensive restaurant on the top floor of the 14-story Bellingham Towers (the tallest building in Bellingham and very old - I think was once the Bellingham Hotel). I'd been introduced to this place by RR when he took me there for tea after a dinner date. It has interesting and experimental cuisine with an emphasis on drastic and contrasting flavors which balance each other out perfectly. The views are also wonderful. Unfortunately we seem to have timed it with an upscale after-work crowd and were seated near the lounge. It was VERY loud and boistrous -- no chance for sweet romantic whispering. Still, it proved to be more relaxing and enjoyable than we thought it could be, considering the cacophany, and it was a wonderful evening.

We spoiled L on her birthday itself and spent lots a family time relaxing. I took the monday off, and the kids had it off too for President's Day, but we knew it wasn't a holiday across the border! So we went grocery shopping at the Costco in Abbottsford, which ironically takes half the time to get to than the Bellingham Costco and has far better foodstuffs. We of course stocked up on chocolate, peanut butter, tuna, smoked oysters, fine cheese, and the like. Yay for Canada! Our cupboards are now filled for the next two months.

Also during this time we discovered the joys of Flower and Rock Band 2, and did some serious family bonding time. A great weekend!

This weekend... not starting out quite so great. Tonight L is hosting a Candlelight party. Two thirds of the party guests bailed out at the last minute, and literally five minutes before the party hostess arrived we had a plumbing emergency when a pipe under our kitchen sink decided to spontaneously come undone. Flooding fun! Yay! Okay, not so yay, but I think I've fixed it... for now.

Next up: another tea break and catching up on my online tea-class homework from last week (gotta get it done before tomorrow's class!).
