In a moment of whimsy I dug out the DDR dancepad from storage this evening. At first the kids were less than enthusiastic ("Can't we play 'Raving Rabbids' Instead?!") but after asserting a little dictatorial parental perogative I booted up Dance Dance Revolution and created a fresh save file.
The kids were terribly amused at Dad's attempt to keep in time with the easiest of the easy songs, with my final rating a solid 'C'. Once I warmed up I found old skills coming back and began getting A ratings, even on the harder songs that the kids demanded I try (e.g., "I Like To Move It [Move It]" and they began cheering me on.
Sadly, I discovered that my dancing endurance has been drained by lack of use and I was tuckered out after only six songs, soles hurting from too many double-foot jump moves. I turned over the reigns to my daughter and she's been out there rediscovering the DDR bug since. E has wisely decided to watch from the sidelines and tinker with Mom's Legos.
I'm thinking DDR will make an excellent tool for warming up in this cold weather, and might get me back to that peak of endurance I had several years ago (when I was nearly a hundred pounds heavier no less!). That aerobic endurance was very useful as I recall, and did wonderful things for my libido. And what a nice way to burn off some of this excess stress!
