Gym: Trainer versus trainee

Jun 23, 2017 08:03

It's funny to observe personal trainers/trainee roles in a gym.

It's like visiting multiple clubs simultaneously.
Some trainers are playing role of sadists and trainees are masochists.
Others use big brother/sister practice.
Third group demonstrates child/parent or parent/child behavior.
Rare type of training is a friendship.

Why is it funny to observe?
First, because "needed two for tango". Immediately after introducing each other, the life scene develops in front of public in real time. This is like visiting theater.
Second, it's just curious to discover who are persons behinds face masks. Discovery of trainee is easy by type of role he/she takes. Discovery of trainer is challenging because of third point:
Third, trainer plays many roles from lesson to lesson. The most interesting part is seeing trainer with one person in role of dad, for instance, and 20-30 minutes later, he's in role of cheerleader with other trainee.

What's the most often type of training?
It's sado-maso: Does it hurt? It works! I'll teach you to like this feeling!

What's the hardest role that trainer can play?
It's 'good cop, bad cop' role. This is hard role since 1 person should play 2 roles intermittently.

Why do trainers playing different roles?
Trainers don't really have motivation to reach trainee goal. Often trainers just don't have enough knowledge and unable to admit in that. However, trainers want to earn their salary: the top income comes from personal training. The only way to maximize the profit in conditions of lack of knowledge is making customer (trainee) happy.

What does make trainee happy?
Obviously, this is a match of expectations. No one wants to be disappointed. Everyone wants to be sure he/she makes the correct things and right choice. This makes trainer's job really hard: at very early stage of training, trainer must adapt himself to trainee's expectation. Trainer must see/feel/recognize minor signs of trainee reaction. Then positive feedback should be increased/repeated and negative reaction should be eliminated/blocked.

So, if trainee thinks all personal trainers are, for instance, too dominating, that means the trainee transmits signals of enjoying to be humiliated. And so on for every type of mutual roles.
If trainee wants other type of relationships with trainer, then change of trainer won't help. Trainee must transmit other "signals".

Gym is not just a place to cultivate the body. Sometimes gym can be used to develop ideas, to make interesting observations and studies. Apparently, gym is reasonably good place for casting professionals to seek for acting talents: there's a lot among trainers.
