Winter is a season of running noses.
In Israel it very popular to use toilet paper (TP) instead of tissues for running nose.
There are number of reasons for that:
1. Calculation below shows that one nose cleaning with TP is cheaper than tissue usage.
2. TP is more common supply than tissue.
3. The roll of TP can be deformed and still usable.
4. TP can be used for its designed purpose easily.
5. The roll of TP has built-in waste storage.
However, the tissue pack has definitely better/easier method of getting to hand: only 1 hand is needed and the next piece is already ready.
From manufacturing point of view - It is required a half of weight of raw material for tissue comparing with TP per dollar of revenue. That means the margin profit from tissues is significantly higher. Probably this is a reason why manufacturing are keeping the competition for tissue market :)
