Wow, okay, wow, he should probably stop thinking it but he couldn't - wow. The new Captain was like something out of a dream, built and black-haired and beautiful sea-green eyes, and Leo wanted to jump his bones harder than he'd ever wanted anything in his life. Next to him, Jason snorted and shoved him hard in the ribcage with a muscled elbow, but what did he know? Maybe Captain Jackson had a thing for Basque boys. Long shot, but maybe. That was the fun part, the way he didn't know.
Jackson's first mate was new, too - an Italian, by the looks of it, swarthy and dark. They stood too close together and it made Leo fucking crazy, watching them. Feeling Jason's laughing eyes on the back of his head as his heart did triple-stupid-time in his chest.
There was a tap on his shoulder and he jumped almost completely out of his skin.
It was the first mate - di Angelo, or something, he hadn't quite paid attention to that detail. Leo stood up a little in his boots. He was taller - by an inch, maybe, but that was important to his manly pride.
"Valdez, right? Grace says you're good at fixing things."
Yes he fucking well was, and everyone on the ship knew it. He nodded, really trying, trying trying trying not to let his jealousy show.
"The Captain has a broken mechanism he wants you to take a look at. I'll fill in your shift." He said it so casually, as he pushed his long black braid over one shoulder and cocked his neck - Leo could see a mark there, a tattoo, a darkly realistic skull.
"What kind of mechanism?" He wasn't dwelling on being alone in the Captain's quarters, he wasn't.
The First Mate shrugged. "Fuck if I know," he said, and just like that, the tension broke. Nico di Angelo grinned and Leo grinned back, laughter bubbling up inside him because that grin - oh, that grin told him everything he needed to know. Someone fucking talked, or maybe it was just that obvious, how badly he wanted him, and this was Nico's way of saying 'go on, he's yours'. He wasn't even sure Captain Jackson had a broken whatever it was at all. He'd fix something, that was for sure, and he had a feeling - maybe a hope, but from the look on Nico's face, maybe more than that - that this wouldn't be the last time.
