The sole survivor of this aircraft type - now resides at the Central Air Force Museum (Muzeynaya Ulitsa, 2, Monino, Moskovskaya oblast', Russia, 141170).

About 1917, two aircraft were sent to the Czarist Russian Air Force as evaluation test models, shortly after their arrival, they were "drafted" into the Red Air Force. One was destroyed during the Civil War. The second soldiered on for almost 70-years with the Soviet Air Force, before being retired to the museum. N5486 was reengined at least six times over its lifetime. The Aircraft was, at one time, colored overall in Sky Blue scheme - speculation was that it was used as camouflage for flying over enemy emplacements during the Great Patriotic War.

The Sopwith Triplane was a dream to fly (compared to the Fokker Triplane which was a handful for even an experienced pilot) but a maintenance nightmare. Which probably was the reason for its low production of 147 aircraft.

I suggest you, do a little more research. The story of N5486 would make a fascinating Aircraft Biography - If such things actually existed. I would prefer my e-mail was not posted/published. But you, can contact me.
