Before I met Matt, I was really anti-romance/anti-marriage. Deep down inside I wanted it, but I didn't feel like I was capable of being a good partner. I'm really moody and have all sorts of problems that I figured no guy would ever deal with. Plus I was really picky. (It's rare for me to be attracted to someone, much less have lots of chemistry with them.) Even though I had been in a relationship for three years, I just never felt that kind of crazy in love feeling. I think I did a few times before, but it wasn't anything long-term.
With that said, feelings of passion and excitement are absolutely imperative for a successful relationship. Looking back I realize why I felt the way I did about love- it's because I literally hadn't met the right person. I think I settled for people who were better of as good friends...
And I believe that pheremones have tons to do with it. Even to this day, I do not know what it is about Matt that drives me wild. I'm pretty sure he feels the same way about me too... I'm not exactly the easiest person to love or get along with. We have hardly anything in common. In fact, if he were anybody else but Matt I probably wouldn't like him. The only explanation I have is chemistry. I don't get it... but there's my answer.
-exactly-. johnathon and i have nothing in common, seriously... but we laugh constantly, and seem to have everything to talk about. he genuinely cares about what i have to say, and listens to me and respects my opinions...
for the longest time i felt like love, relationships, blah blah were based entirely on finding someone that understood and completely related to you. and now i'm seeing that that's bullshit. opposites attract, completely. he's everything i thought that i never wanted, and just saying his name in my head gives me chills. it's totally insane and amazing and i'm seriously not saying i love him, but there is definitely potential there.
we've been friends for about eight months now, and constantly denying that there was anything there. everyone else seemed to see it before we did, and we were both so different from one another that i guess he felt the same way i did and figured that it wouldn't work. and here it is, finally, and it's so right that i don't even know what to think about it.
I'm really happy for you. What's great about feeling this way is that you're not only really psyched about the person you're seeing, but you're also relieved to have found someone you can put your faith into. When I met Matt I was on cloud nine, and I thought to myself "YES! I can believe in love again!!"
Even though Matt doesn't understand me or relate to me all the time, and even though we have completely different interests and backgrounds, he's someone who completes me. And I mean that in the most non-sappy way possible. We both have qualities that the other person lacks, and it really grounds the both of us.
Also, it's great that you've been friends with him for a while. When people start dating, they put up these fronts and act in ways they normally wouldn't. You *know* him, and he knows you, and so you can trust your feelings toward him THAT much more.
Anyway, don't worry about rambling! Shit, dude. I'm the queen of ramble.
