Seems the general consensus regarding the announcement that Catherine Tate will be the Doctor's new companion is not a positive one... according to the "Have Your Say" section on the Beeb.
Basically, Catherine Tate (shouty, unfunny and highly annoying 'commedienne' who rose to... well... notariety thanks to her truly inspired catchphrase of "Am I bovvered?") was in the Christmas special last year. She majorly sucked and now we poor Doctor Who fans (who are not watching the show with renewed interest just because we might think the 10th Doctor is mildly attractive thankyou very much *G*) are going to be stuck with her shouty, whining, grating-on-the-nerves self for the whole run of episodes next year *fumes
( ... )
So, short form: Who Creators Suck, Americans are Doofuses (big shocker) and somebody needs a flogging? *G*
But of course, we (American Geeks) own ALL entertainment and how DARE you UK types try to tell us what is and isn't funny. Who is OURS now! *stomps foot, brandishes weapon and grunts*
Heh. Not that I have a fairly low estimation of my fellow Americans or anything. I just remember too well all those years when I was mocked for adoring Python, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, etc. NOW all of a sudden, Who is hip? Please.
I am really glad I asked! I rely on you for the European view of pop culture, just as I rely on the BBC for news. *G*
Stunt casting is always a bad idea. Always! Even here. Except maybe John Ritter. ;)
Well, thank you. I like to think so. I used to consider myself a bit of an entertainment Anglophile.
Ooh! I forgot League of Gentlemen. *G*
Well, okay, not all of us are doofuses, it's true. But enough to say so. Of course, when we talk about fannish types, we're talking about a totally different breed anyway. ;)
Enlighten me oh, geek-citizen of the UK. *G*

He really got around didn't he?
Not all Americans are doofuses. I think you're more than testament to that and with exceedingly good taste in comedy I might add *G*
