Bloody fundamentalist Christians!!!
This is my major problem with the BIG religions - this imposition (usually by an ignorant minority) of their religious sensibilities and doctrines upon others. The unwavering belief that they are right and to Hades with everyone else. No give whatsoever.
In fact I really have to wonder just how far from the truly fundamental lessons of the Bible (a book which I do like to assume they have actually taken the time to read before espousing this crap) these people can get and still call themselves Christian.
Okay, so incest - whether fictional or actual - isn't really something I tend to gravitate toward but... Jeezy Creezy! Are we not supposed to even discuss these things? Support groups... are they not a good thing? And as for the book - obviously slightly more complex than it would seem to certain sections of society.
Our right to Freedom of Speech must be preserved at all cost.
As Voltaire said, "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it."
Enough of our rights are being gradually eroded out of grandiose fear management as it is.
I bet the instigators of this kerfuffle are glad of it - it does, afterall, allow those cretinous yahoos to flap their gums without censure themselves.
You know I read about what's happening in the U.S. in general (attitudes to gender, sexuality, faith, skin colour... though communities here on LJ, American friends, not so much the American media) and the reaction is generally that of abject horror. The stranglehold these folks (to coin a Shrub-ism) seem to have on companies/public bodies... the power to kowtow organisations with their particular brand of religious indignation and malicious hate-mongering is ridiculous.
Good thing there's separation of Church and State.... isn't there?
It's happening more and more over here too - demos at abortion clinics, yet another Catholic bishop Fire and Brimstoning about... everything his church stands against... *sighs*
My tolerance of intolerance is really wearing thin.
