This isn't a new issue - since the Government has been toying with the idea of introducing 24 hour drink licensing for bars/ pubs etc. - but what has cropped up in the midst of the surrounding debate is the small matter of British 'binge-drink' society and how allowing these people a public means of getting rat-arsed at any time of day or night out-with the privacy of their own home just might be a bad thing.
... Um... it is a bad thing.
Yes, the Continental Europeans may already allow it, but hey... they don't go off on package holidays to Ibiza just to get drunk every night, get arrested for lewd and/ or aggressive behaviour and trash hotel rooms whilst under the influence.
That's all by-the-by though.
The part that is really annoying me is that 'society' is most concerned about young women's increasing tendency to go out of an evening and get pissed.
No big shakes there. They should be able to if they want to.
Only thing is there are more worrying trends rising in parallel to this: date rapes, drink spiking and sexual assaults on young, inebriated women are increasing.
But here's the kicker... it's not the men who are carrying out these acts who are to blame... it's the women for going out and having a good time. It's the woman's responsibility to always watch her drink, be careful of who bought it, where she puts it... WTF?
Worryingly this is one of the more balanced articles. ***
Talked to the Librarian (NOT
