Warner Bros. Confirms Superman Reboot.

Just a few days after this article was posted, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman. We assume this will be similar to how Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk was a reboot of Ang Lee's Hulk .

More stuff at the link itself, but this caught my eye:

Like the recent Batman sequel -- which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far -- Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as "The Dark Knight." Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.' DC properties. "We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says. That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well.

...but dark fits Batman. Just because it worked well for Batman does not mean it has to work the same way for all the other DC characters. As it is, they're kinda fucking slow when it comes to using DC properties and using DC properties well. Thing is, I could imagine them doing something along the lines of that horrible Batman vs. Superman script for the next Superman movie -- in terms of dark tone at least.

Then there's the other part of me thinking that reboot = lots of action. Maybe even polar bears and a giant spider. Hell, go all the way and bring back the costume with the knives in the shape of the S-shield, ARGHHHH.

I'm one of the few that liked Superman Returns, sure, but I can't help but feel a little wary about this. Supposedly Bryan Singer has been back at the studio working with new writers and ... honestly, I'd rather they use the same cast and go all out and do more action than start all over again, because I'm not sure if "yay! Moody Superman! Lots of shit blowing up!" will necessarily be the right direction.* *shrugs*

Second thought, screw all of that, give me a freaking Wonder Woman or The Flash or Green Lantern movie already.

* That isn't to say I don't think having a moodier/dark Superman is a bad idea. It's that sometimes when they've done darker storylines for him in the comics, I wanted to strangle something. Certain ones worked, others didn't. I don't expect them to find that line in between, since WB's handling it and at least Marvel has its own studio and people to be at least a teeny bit more knowledgeable whileas the WB has approval over their entire slate of films, not just the DC ones.

movies, dc comics, the failboat's calling
