Psst, look it up on Google -- Reg and I were looking at the Wiki entry and we started to laugh because it's actually much tastier than the listing there (and doesn't include some of those weird ass suggestions).

People make them (i.e. my Reg) or buy them from the frozen foods section (i.e. my lazy ass. Ha!)

It's kinda complicated, I did a huge-ass lj post (f-locked) on the making of it, but it's really worth the effort, they freeze really well, and my family makes around 120-150 pasteles once a year ('round Christmas as it's very much a food that has to go on the table for Christmas dinner).

I don't eat the frozen because they taste not-right. If you ever have something like arroz con pollo, the sofrito element in that (which is like, garlic, onions, peppers, olives and whatnot) is also in pasteles. And a lot of Goya products. I swear, we like, clean out a bodega.

Ahh, I know, thought as much -- I'm the same way with certain movies. Like say E.T. for instance; I've had it since it came out on VHS but only got around to seeing it a few years ago and didn't understand it. But make sure you guys watch it! It's a blast. I think you'll enjoy it. :)
