I found a site that seems to be tailored to my current Jewish identity:
http://www.jew-ish.com/index.php?/site/about I read an article on there about how smoking wasn't kosher, although it just mentions cigarettes and marajuana, not hookas. I don't know about any of you, but I've found that in recent years the hookah has become a big thing in Jewish culture, at least at Western and WSU with the "Hookah in the sukkah" events and such. Just interesting that it isn't mentioned in the article, because hookahing is still bad for your lungs blah blah blah. But certainly not as detrimental as cigarettes or marajuana.
Anyway, it would be hypocritical for me to lecture anybody on smoking and I have other issues I'd rather get on a soapbox about. I just thought that was interesting because I'd never even heard the issue brought up in a Jewish sphere; people usually talk about which food is and isn't kosher.
Although I'm not a devout Jew, the thing I like about the culture is that everything is up for discussion and debate. That's probably why a lot of debaters and lawyers are Jewish(no, that's not a stereotype, its true), because they grew up in a culture where that was allowed. And its always supported with points, too, its not just arbitrary. If you read the article about smoking, they list a bunch of poiints, refuting common thought and providing the correct answer.
Anyway, I was glad to find this site. I first learned about it through The Stranger, where it is coupled with the image of a banana with the top of the peel removed. Think about it:)
Well, I'd best be off to my day.
Happy Saturday!
