For people who like weird fiction

I just finished one of Haruki Murakami's novels, South of the Border, West of the Sun. Like all of his novels, it is engaging. One of his biggest talents is creating tension, and it becomes hard to put the book down. Plus this is probably his shortest novel, so I was able to finish it in only a few hours.

I suppose the story is about a boy who cheats on his first girlfriend, then much later cheats on his wife. But like all Murakami stories it's not straightforward at all, and to sum it up as I did in that last sentence is really superficial. Readers of Murakami will undoubtedly recognize some themes that run through most of his other novels. Like all his other writing, this book will fuck with your head a little bit (that's the cool part). This isn't my favorite of his work (I prefer Kafka on the Shore or Wild Sheep Chase), but it certainly is worth reading.

Anyway, I believing in passing along good books to anyone who wants to read them. It makes more sense then letting them catch dust on a shelf. If you're interested in reading it, please comment and I'll give it to you. Then you can pass it on to someone else if you like.

Another good book I have is 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Vern. This is one for all you sci-fi fans out there. I feel I don't have to explain this one, as probably you already know that it is about the narrator (Arronax) taking an under sea voyage in a cool-ass submarine piloted by mysterious Captain Nemo. The version I have is supposed to be the best translated one. I'm not finished with it yet, but if you want this book let me know and I'll give it to you when I'm done.
