Bad Appendix, no Otakon for you!

*sigh*

Never a dull moment.
Just got out today from spending a week in confinement at New York Columbia Presbyterian suffering appendicitis, which I must admit is not a fate worse than death but is still FAR from pleasant.
The end of the story, however, remains elusive since I had my appendix originally over 15 years ago so the question of how I got a second case of appendicitis is rather dubious under the circumstances. The doctors can’t be certain of what exactly is the problem, despite repeated CAT-scans, because I currently have a rather sizable “mass” of infection sitting over the location of what remains of my appendix For the majority of the week their plan was to break the mass up to a point where it could be siphoned out so the area can be examined again but despite the efforts of some exemplary doctors and nurses administrating almost a battery of antibiotics, the mass has not budged one iota so the doctors have unanimously thrown up their hands and said “your fever is gone and white blood cell count is down so go home, nothing we can do”.

Just great.

So now I am at home with a sizeable chunk of infection sitting in my belly like a grenade and somehow as I take more antibiotics over the next two weeks waiting for the “mass” to break up (and what, poison my sorry ass with a #$#@$@ blood infection?…wtf?!).

Joy.

I don’t even want to think about what my hospital bill (after insurance) will look like. *shudder*

One thing for sure. My Otakon plans are HISTORY.

Ce La Vie.
