I HAVE THE DVD OF THE TEMPEST IT IS HERE IT DOES EXIST OMG OMG OMG!
The Julie Taymore version starring Helen Mirren. The one I wanted to see when I first heard about it but it was only released in about three theaters in the entire country and I ordered the DVD on May 15th and it was pushed back three times and it finally shipped two days ago and it just arrived today and IT IS HERE I HAVE IT OMG.
I've just put it on. I hope it doesn't suck after I've waited for too long. But so far Helen Mirren as Prospera is absolutely killing it and the modifications of her story to Miranda are done quite well I think. This is my favorite play. Read it for the first time in seventh grade for school. And I've seen several film versions and I hadn't liked any of them.
I HAVE THE DVD AND IT LOOKS GORGEOUS SO FAR AND I AM EXITED AND IT'S HEEEEERE! *MUPPETFLAIL*
ETA: Yessssss. This movie makes me happy. Even if it's trimmed down a little to reduce the run time. I know the play well enough that sometimes I was specifically listening for them and they never came. But my favorite scenes were amazing. And though they spared all expense on the DVD itself there's at least some special features. Including one where Julie Taymore asks Russel Brand whether Trinculo is his first or last name. And then he just runs on for five minutes being funny. XD I wasn't sure when I first heard about it about the female Prospero, but Helen Mirren is amazing. And Ariel as the Harpy omg. And the scene where Sebastian and Antonio are plotting against Alonso. And Ariel is just pretty. As is the scenery, which is perfect. And yeah. XD Getting this DVD was as exciting as Christmas. When I got the shipping notice I made a loud and embarassing sound of glee and danced in my chair in the office at work. Fortunately I was alone. XD So yeah. I enjoyed it and even after waiting for forever I'm not disappointed.
