The vast majority of what Lackey writes is retarded. The Fairy Godmother was a big exception, and its promise is utterly squandered in the two 'sequels'.

Ah, so it is very likely that book I read forever ago was by her!

Hrm, well, if I see something else by her that looks interesting, I'll pick it up to give her the benefit of the doubt... but I'll stay wary!

Agreed on Lackey's writing. I never liked her very much - and I read her stuff back when I was in high school (and would therefore read *anything* fantasy or scifi-ish, good or bad). Still, tastes differ. I say give something else by her a shot if you think the concept looks good. Then you'll know what you're hating with the force of a thousand suns.

I didn't read The Fairy Godmother, though. I'm glad it's good! I guess even mediocre authors get a chance to shine.

Heh, the more and more I'm hearing from others, the more I'm confirming that that past book was definitely hers!

But yeah, we'll see. I mean, there are plenty of LKH fans still out there reading her turn to crappiness, so tastes definitely vary!

I'm taking a trip to the used bookstore this weekend to trade books in, so we'll see what I get! Eeee, used bookstore day is so exciting! ^_^

I look back at the Heralds' series and cringe. I can't believe I liked that stuff! Then again, I really wanted a pony when I was a girl... sooo...

I really have to say that the only stuff I read of hers now is the elemental series (sometimes) and the elven racing series, because the concept of elves being NASCAR racers amuses me a lot.

However, I think she's a better author than the kid who wrote Eragon. (His writing style drives me BONKERS!) And yet, I continue to read him, too, because again - good concepts, bad delivery.

If you enjoy mary sues, superintelligent magical horses, weepy homosexual men, buttsechs, and bards, then her books might be something you'd like. Otherwise, stay away.
