I really need to sync up my icons between LJ and DW again. It seems like no matter which site I'm on, I don't have the icons I expect. Anyway!
Hi! How's everyone?
I went out with my former coworkers this week. Pretty much all of them, which was impressive. I had two whole beers, one of which was a perfectly respectable stout and the other was a
fantastic lambic and not very beer-like at all. We managed to get ahold of one of the boxes for the trivia game and kicked trivial butt for the last hour, and at one point, we were eleventh nationally. As my manager put it, "we're booksellers; we're better than you!" Needless to say, he was drunk. And hilarious with the trash talk.
I spent the last hour of my bookselling career playing cards (The Totally Renamed Spy Game) with the whole crew. We'd more-or-less finished the store closing, and the managers were of the mind that the company had allotted us the hours, so by goodness we were going to use them. Best workday ever? Possibly! Also, our first day post-customers, we were allowed, nay, encouraged to go around and collect strips that we'd want to take home. I have stacks; expect recs. That way I'll remember which ones I want to purchase when I am employed again.
I've been cleaning ALL THE THINGS....when I'm not book hopping like mad. I think I'm up to six books that I'm actively reading? Something like that. And none of them are the aforementioned strips, heh. Yesterday, I started reading a book called The Archangel Protocol that I'd bought ages ago, and since it was part of a series, I decided to check whether the other books are available as ebooks. No dice -- but it turns out I've
met the author, and I already had this book on my shelf at home -- it's under a different pen name, so I had no idea. (I mentioned the ages ago part, yes?)
The cleaning's going well, though. My old Yahoo account went from an Inbox of 300+ to 27; the current Gmail account is still a work in progress, but more easily searchable and therefore less dire. I found my Catwoman poster from when her title launched in the early '90s, my TMNT cell (stop judging), and a bunch of track lists for mix tapes and cds that I'd previously searched extensively for and assumed were lost for good (problematic mainly because they're in languages I don't speak well, so the odds of me figuring out titles/artists on my own were laughable). My next area of attack is the book shelves -- I have the signs from the Fiction/Literature section and the Science Fiction/Fantasy section and I want to rearrange my bookshelves so I can tack them up over the appropriate books. (Two of my bookcases have a flat area on the top perfect for affixing these signs to -- but those cases are currently full of nonfiction.)
Unfortunately, both the reading and the cleaning are ways of avoiding thinking about/doing anything about the Job Situation.
In cheering news, my sister called today. She watched the opera Macbeth this week. It's award winning. She was adorable in her hatred of it. After she described the set design and costuming, black and red vinyl costumes against a black and red set,
She said it wasn't classy enough to be a Darren Nichols production. The only parts she truly enjoyed were the actress playing Lady Macbeth, whom she wanted to rescue from the production, and the ballet sequence -- which she said was "before the interpretive dance, but after Lady Macbeth gives Macbeth a handjob." Okay, then!
Also, I kindof sortof linked her to one of my stories on AO3 -- the recently posted Horatio -- in my latest set of fic recs. And I know she's seen my username before? But I'm still kind of debating removing the direct link from my AO3 profile to my journals, and I'm not entirely sure why. Barn door, horse, whatever. Hi, sis, if you're here!
Fannishly, I am still not very interactive at the moment (see: guilt over avoiding the stuff I should be doing whilst on the computer), but I think this
Mary Sue Promptfest is seriously cool, so y'all should check it out whenever you take a break from watching all the new
festivids. Oh, and I'm trying to get all my tiny fic up on AO3, so apologies for the gift fic notices, if they're getting annoying. I think I'll finish that up today. Also, I should probably introduce myself on the Headstones trip planning comm. Ack. Ok, maybe I'll get to that after I respond to the various posts open in tabs. *eyes warily*
