First off, you two...VOW
Okay, I feel better now.
That being said... [don't hit me] I have to agree with Hime-sama. I even ran back and flipped to page 603 when she said it, then re-read that bit with the 'don't call me coward' and was completely on the Dumbledore ordered Snape to keep his Unbreakable Vow and protect his students even if he hated it bandwagon, before reading it in Hime's journal.
And...I had been contemplating that before I came down to turn on the computer. Dumbledore knew of the Vow, and he knew that Draco was trying to kill him...I kept sitting there for the longest time afterwards going, he knew all of that...he couldn't have been so stupid as to ask for Snape if he knew he would either have to help Draco kill him or die himself. So...now having read Hime's bit, light was shined upon my darkness...and I'm once again on the Snape is still quite part of the Order bandwagon.
Hell, maybe he knocked Flitwick out to keep him safe. One less person to accidentally get hit by big blonde death eater's attack.
OH right! And it had to have been part of the grand plan. Otherwise why would he have frozen Harry? To keep him from bumping into Draco, I think not. Harry was resoultely going to go follow Dumbledore's orders and get Snape, was he not. If for some reason, Harry didn't leave having seen Draco come up, Draco would have been more inclined to kill Dumbledore on his own had he known Harry was there. I mean...seriously. They hate eachother as much as Severus and James did...flinging Unforgivable and Dark Curses at eachother. Draco would have either ended up fighting and killing Harry (or vice versa) whereas Dumbledore knew if he thought they were alone he could get through to his student. Draco is not evil. Antagonist, definately. Son of a Death Eater, well duh. But the fact that he loves his family enough to do things he's not ready for, nor really wants to do, just proves that he's not evil.
Hmm...Did anyone notice that neither of these two characters were on my hated list? [looks around] and for the record...even before reading Hime-sama's post...I did not, could not hate Snape. [Enjoy loathing him alongside Harry while reading, sure. But as a character...he's bloody brilliant]
Ho-Hum...there was someother point I wanted to make...oh well, I'll probably think of it if I decide to blog my POV.
What, ambitious and cunning? Or just manipulative?ifreetJuly 18 2005, 22:01:40 UTC
Right, right. *smacks forehead* Thought I'd looked it up at one point... that does explain why I had to keep "correcting" myself from writing "Vow."
I'm not sure how worried Snape would necessarily be for Flitwick, but he also effectively kept two students out of danger at the same time with that move.
As far as grand plans go... I'm not entirely convinced. I think we're into Contingency Plan 37F: What to do if Everything Goes to Hell, but Snape is still Trusted (Somewhat) by What's-His-Name. [I'd say Sirius named it, but he would have hated and opposed this plan. A lot. So it must have been Dumbledore.] I'd read Dumbledore's freezing Harry as an improvisational decision to protect Harry from his own Gryffindorish impulse to try and rescue Dumbledore -- regardless of whomever was bursting through the door. Though I do agree that if Draco had known Harry was present, he would have been more likely to go through with his mission. Much with the needing to prove things, those two are.
And yeah, Draco is not evil. Just kinda stupid, in a very teenager way.
Hm. Well, that was far too easy to respond to. Give me something to argue with! Force me to defend my position! Or I shall threaten you with more Snape, Sex God of Slytherin.

Sorry. You're going to have to ask Ami-chan for ones you can argue with. I'm fully on your side here.
And...I thought you were going to find me pictures? Where's my pictures? Of course, I'm much rather read your wonderfully weaved words than see someone elses pictures.
But- but- Fine! Don't argue with me. See if I care. *sulks*
Well, Ponderosa is always good for smutty pics, and she does have an ... impressive Snape at http://www.ponderosa121.com/top.html Go to artwork, then scroll to Harry Potter nonpairing. This is the "Gondor has no pants artist," by the by. I luvs her work. ^_^
