As seen at bluebrocade's journal.

1. stuff wot'll always usually get me to read a fic

Get together fic. Second chances fic. Humor. Layered plots. Longing. Asymmetrical feelings (at the start). Meaningful explanations of odd canon. Strong sense of place/time. Characters bantering/snarking/bitching at each other. Good sex. Non-PWP threesomes. Episode-related fic.

2. stuff wot'll always usually make me pass on a fic

Summaries which include 'lol.' A male character acting like a teenage, lovesick girl (an occasional bout of mooning, maybe; uncontrollable tears or mood swings, not so much). UNsafe INsane and/or NON-consensual BDSM. Gen h/c (my mind boggles). Vilifying characters who could otherwise present a stumbling block to the preferred pairing. Authors who don't use spell check - and if necessary, grammar check.

3. stuff I be meh about

Domestic and kid fic. AUs (although I have hit a startling string of good ones in dS and may have to revise my stance).

4. stuff wot'll only get read when I'm in the right mood
Crack!fic. Death fic.

You know, my list of "things I won't read" used to be much bigger. But I kept finding those things written by authors I liked and discovering that I could like them, when they were well handled - crossover fusions, mpreg, various not-my-kinks, RPF, genderfuck. I guess those could all be 'meh' now, in that they no longer illicit a specific response. Now it mostly boils down to, "Can the author convince me that this specific character would behave in this way, given the situation of this fic?"
