I was in a fender bender a couple weeks ago. Nothing serious, everyone's ok. But I am having a terrible time with insurance. The insurance agent of the girl who caused the accident has been calling me for a week now. This is the most extreme game of phone tag I have ever played.
First Kevin calls, I'm not home, Kevin leaves a message. All's good.
I try to call Kevin back. Kevin is at lunch. I get Barbara. Barbara is not happy that I exist. She informs me of the fact that because I am still just a few months short of 18 I need a parent or legal guardian present when I give my statement. Barbara asks when a good time to call would be so that we would all be home. There isn't one. Not during business hours anyway. I give Barbara my cell phone number.
I set up with my dad to have us both call at lunch time. Kevin has had a family emergency and Penelope, the young (I'm assuming) intern, doesn't think that Kevin will be back that day. Or the next week. Penelope is not to keen on listening to the people she is talking to. Penelope asks repeatedly where the damage is to my car. There isn't any. Penelope is very insistent on sending an inspector to assess the non-existent damage. I hang up.
Kevin calls my cell phone today. I am driving. I tell Kevin that I will call him as soon as I get home (no more than 15 minutes). I call my dad so that he will be on the line. We call Kevin. Kevin does not answer.
Later, Kevin calls back. I give Kevin my dad's number so we can conference call. My dad doesn't answer. I give Kevin my mom's number so we can conference call. Kevin and I get "This number does not exist". I give Kevin the number again. Kevin and I get the operator. Kevin begins talking to the recording that comes on when you are supposed to dial the extension. I give Kevin the extension. My mom does not answer. Kevin tries my dad again. My dad does not answer. Kevin tells me that we might as well get the "facts" right now and we can get a recorded statement later.
Kevin and I talk.
I ask him when he needs the recorded statement by. Kevin replies that what I have just told him should be enough.
Hello head. Meet my friend Desk.
This has made me want to avoid accidents more than the threat of death, loss of loved ones, critical injury, and lawsuits.
In all of this I decided to see how many little hearts I could doodle while on the phone with all these people. 68 little colored in hearts.
Hello (now slightly bruised) head. Meet industrial paper shredder.
