There was really nothing extaordinary about my day. My string quartet had it's first coaching with Michael (my viola teacher) today. I think the most skilled (for now! I'll be the best!) person in the quartet might be the cellist, I don't think Michael criticized her directly once. Also, I'm still trying to figure out why the second violinist wears t-shirts that promote Playboy, maybe she's a lesbian. Hmmm... It's a mystery I must solve! (Not really) I found out that the Miami Symphony pays $375 a concert but that they rehearse at night all week, so I wouldn't be able to do it.

There was really nothing extraordinary about my day. The only reason my mood is happy is because I'm listening to one of the CDs I picked up at the library. Kim Kashkashian, one of my favorite Violists plays Bach's Sonatas for Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord. The Viola da Gamba is a Baroque instrument that fell out of use after the Baroque era (fretted and played like a cello). I don't think Bach would mind too much that Kashkashian plays it on a Viola (then known as the Viola da Bratche) because according to his wife's diary, he used to play the Viola da Bratche to relax at home. He's also quoted as saying that he liked playing the Bratche because he liked being "In the middle of the harmony". He also thought enough of the instrument to feature two solo Viola da Bratche in his Brandenburg Concerto No. 6. And I love Kashkashian. I have her recordings of the Hindemith Viola Sonatas and I absolutely love them. It's really cool to hear her play in a more Baroque style. But I'm going to be better than her too!!! I'm not really devoting all of my attention to the music right now though, I will later.
