Two weeks ago I did a Saturday of overtime, last weekend was the Highland games. This weekend I planned to take it a little easy.

Lapislaz and I got in the car to go to the nearby low carb store only to discover the battery has died. We started the car by jumping it and headed over to the store, with our puppies along for the ride. At the store we left the car running just in case it would not start again. We were in front of the store and could easily keep an eye on the dogs. We know the owner of the store wall and even took her some of Lapis' famous meatballs.

After we got back home I went over and got a new battery for our Saturn. I trimmed the and fertilized the roses, & did a bit of patio cleaning. I spent some time at the computer and in the evening watched the original version of Empire on DVD.

Sunday morning we drove to Carlsbad to Tip Top meats to get some Boston Butt to make some sausage. While there we had Big Johns all the meat you can eat breakfast. The meats include Bratwurst, John.s good bacon, his own sausage or ham. We ate some of each, and also bought some bacon to bring home. The place is a meat market, European grocery, German deli and restaurant.

Back at home we made up the sausage. Back in North Carolina, my birth state, there is a type of sausage my Grandfather and some of my cousins made. My grandfather used to mail us out sausage from time to time over the years. He passed back in the 80s, but we could still get it from the store our cousins ran, Summerll's Country Sausage. The Summerll Family sold the store about 8 years ago to a couple from South Arfica. They still make the sausage with the old recipe. My parents went back to Greenville to do some family research, and went out to see if the business was still there. It was and though they could not ship the product out of state, they made up some packets of the spices used to make the sausage, and instructions on how to do it.

So I added the spices this afternoon and ground up the meat. I do not have a sausage packer, so I just made up some patties. We had gotten 10 pounds of meat, so I froze a lot of it in bulk. Good Stuff!!

suasage, weekend
