For most of this year, I was pretty much just listening to the same records I was last year. Records that have been out for years and that weren't very new to me. And a few that I missed out on at the time and realised I loved. Either way, I was that close to writing off 2008 as the worst year for new music ever.
Until Bloc Party announced on Monday August 18th that they were releasing a new album on August 21st online. Titled "Intimacy", this album reminds me of Brand New's "Devil and God" in the way it makes their last two albums seems immature and irrelevant with it's depth and invention. STOKED.
But wait, there's more. Somehow I didn't even know Sigur Ros had released an album this year. In fact I hadnt listened to anything since "Agaetis Byrjun". Now I'm sitting here, happy as larry, with two good albums for all of 2008. Bring on 2009.
Note: I also consider the 3 new tracks on "Good Girl Gone Bad" to make it a new album, so that becomes Number 3 on my albums of the year list. How does someone have 7 Number 1 singles on one album?
