Right here! [Background]
The game starts out with Neku waking in the Scramble Crossing in Shibuya having no idea how he got there. Of course he didn't have too much time too ponder that before a timer appeared on his hand and he was being chased by Frog Noise. He then meets Shiki who he reluctantly partners up with and finds that he is in The Reaper's Game. He finds that each game lasts one week, each day filled with missions to complete and a time limit. The next day, Neku is driven to erase Shiki because is thought she was a Reaper. Before this happened though, they were stopped by a guy named Hanekoma, or Mr. H as he is known as.
They run into Rhyme and Beat who are also players. Neku however rejects them when they offered to team up. The next day they had an easy mission and Beat made it into a race. It was a trap and Rhyme was erased by the noise that appeared out of nowhere saving her brother. Mr. H enters with a plan to save Beat since once you lose your partner, you will join them in three minutes. We find that in order to enter the game you must have already died, and you have to give the thing most important too you as an entry fee.
As the week goes on, Neku eventually admits to having no memory of himself except for his name. We also learn that Shiki is not who she seems to be. It turns out that she is not in her real body and that she is incredibly jealous of Eri, the real person who looks like she does. Neku eventually warms up to Shiki and in the process she is able to get over her jealousy towards her friend. At the end of the week, it was decided that only one person would be reborn and that was Shiki. Beat also shows up asking to be a reaper in which was granted. Neku is told that he could be erased or go through another week through the game. He chose the last option and was given his memory back. However, Shiki has become what Neku values most, and she is used as his entry fee for the second week.
Starting the second week of the Reaper's Game, he meets someone named Joshua. A kid that Neku feels like hitting most of the time turns out to be one of the only people he is able to relate too. They both share a common ground for not wanting to get involved with other people, which in turn makes them weird friends. However, as the week goes on Neku begins to be suspicious of him as he is always on the phone talking to someone. Not only that, but he is able to scan his mind to find that Joshua may have been the one that shot him. This shouldn't be possible if he is a player because of the player pin preventing that.

Even so, he decides to follow along with him since he needs him to complete the game. Meanwhile, he finds that the Game Master is somehow connected in all of this as he experiences strange headaches when he is around. At the end of the second week, Joshua seemingly sacrifices himself to save Neku from a bomb created by Minamimoto, the Game Master.
Due to Neku and Joshua bending the rules for the game, with Joshua sacrificing himself, the game is ruled null and Neku is forced to replay the game a third time. His entry fee this time is all of the other players, meaning Neku cannot form any pacts and stands no chance against the Noise. However, Beat immediately defects from the Reapers and rejoins Neku. Neku and Beat find that the Reapers and the entire population of Shibuya are wearing special red pins that cause them to think the same harmonious thoughts. Without any missions to complete, the two venture to the fabled "Shibuya River", which Joshua was looking for during the second week. At the river, they find Megumi Kitaniji, the Game's Conductor. Kitaniji explains that he created the red pins in an attempt to remake Shibuya, which the Composer challenged him to do; if he fails, Shibuya will be erased.
At that moment, Joshua reappears and reveals himself to be the Composer. Joshua returns the missing part of Neku's memory of death: Joshua himself shot Neku, choosing him to be his proxy in his challenge with Kitaniji. Minamimoto, who had been trying to usurp the position of Composer, was trying to kill Joshua in his weakened state as a human. After failing to defeat Neku by using his friends against him, Joshua gives Neku one last challenge: To fire upon Joshua to determine the fate of Shibuya. Neku is too conflicted to make a choice, and is shot down by Joshua. Neku finds himself once again at the scramble crossing, confused by events.
[Personality]
At the beginning of the game, Neku appears incredibly anti-social, wanting absolutely nothing to do with those around him. As the game goes on, he slowly learns to open up to people.
Despite all his changes, Neku can still be considered quite socially awkward. He spent majority of his life ignoring people so that should be obvious. Neku is still new to the whole "friends" deal as well and will most likely make a remark or retort to cover up awkward moments he has or just chooses silence.
He's not the type to start a random conversation with somebody he doesn't even know. Not to mention he has a knack for being very sarcastic and somewhat blunt. He hates people using him for their own reasons, or their pawn. He is also strong willed and doesn't back from a challenge that easily, especially with those few that he cares for on the line.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Assuming that he still keeps the stuff from the game, he has many abilities. However, most of those abilities would require a partner to make a pact with.
He can choose to scan the thoughts of others around him. It's not that deep as he only can scan the thoughts of those at the very front of peoples minds. This ability comes from the Player Pin that he got from the Reaper's Game, and also prevents his own mind from being read.
Because of his high Imagination, he is able to use any pin in the game with ease. It should be noted that Neku cannot use weapons, he knows how to use a gun but it hasn't been shown whether or not he is any good. He only has his psyches in order to fight. He has been known to use telekinesis, fire, lightning, and wind in the form of different attacks.
[Affection] Considering how socially awkward he still is, he won't take to flirting quite well. He's not the touchy-feely type either so lay low on hugs and pats on the shoulders.
[Fighting] With a partner, he can put up one good fight. Don't expect him to go down easily. Contact me before you try to kill him please~
[Other Facts] Don't touch his headphones. Don't steal his headphones.
