more proof that what happens in america affects the entire world - i know at least 2 people who are jobless since lehman filed for chapter 11 on monday.
if this happened 3 years ago i couldn't (and needn't) care less. but today, i know that all these financial world happenings will have direct consequences on the firm, its clients, its earnings, my job, my bonus, my plans for next year blah blah blah. and it's scary to realise you can't be blissfully ignorant any longer.
growing up really sucks.
on a nerdier note, i wonder how lehman's lawyers felt preparing the bankruptcy papers - knowing that you are acting for this giant of a financial institution but in the saddest circumstances possible. what is also terribly exciting is having to advise the bank and ensure that its subsidiaries (in different jurisdictions all over the world and all governed by distinct bankruptcy / insolvency laws and procedures!) escape the clutches of a similar fate and then execute an orderly liquidation of assets and subsequent pay-out to creditors. there must be mountains of papers to look through but in a sick sick way, how fun and deliciously challenging to be in that position!
