Update on network fun

May 16, 2008 13:55

if only I could be so lucky to have it simply be an Xbox attached to the network.
But seeing as how I was unable to triple check the Xbox yesterday it turns out it was just a coincidence and the real culprit was elsewhere.

Again at 1:20 today the network issue cropped up again.
The only difference was that today I had narrowed it down to a small pool of suspect and quickly identified the culprit workstation, triple checked it on an offline to see if it was guilty party in my network and now have it isolated with a nice clean network running again.

Now I just have to determine exactly what is running on it. I suspect it's a trojan specifically designed to disable the Symantec software I have running on that machine but I'll find out soon.

Freaking annoying. I really wanted it to JUST be the Xbox.
now I know it was probably because this user had downloaded a keygen or something suspect containing the trojan/worm and run it without first scanning.

bleargh.

UPDATE:
sure enough... mofo had downloaded some warez and with it a nasty trojan. I'm just soooo happy that my guys aren't listening to me and that Symantec was such weak sauce that they didn't catch CRAP when it installed on his system.
