Allow me to present a demonstrative example of what my work life has been like this week:
On my way back to my office from our training facility, I get on the bus and sit next to a straightlaced 20-something kid. Immediately upon sitting I realize that the 40-something drunk guy across from me is yelling at at the 20-something kid and trying to urge him off the bus so that they can fight. The woman on my other side gets off the bus so I scoot over, because if 40-something drunk comes at 20-something kid, I don't want to accidentally get nailed by a flailing elbow. 20-something kid tries to be reasonable but 40-something drunk guy doesn't want to hear it.
The 30-something guy with Downs Syndrome who is sitting next to 40-something drunk guy gets up, then comes over and sits between me and 20-something kid. He scolds the 40-something drunk guy by saying, "You're a mean man!" 20-something kid assures 30-something Downs Syndrome guy that 40-something drunk guy is harmless and not to worry. Then 40-something drunk guy calls 20-something kid a "punk ass bitch". At which point 30-something Downs Syndrome guy bursts into sobbing tears and covers his face, and 20-something kid glares at 40-something drunk and comforts 30-something Downs Syndrome guy.
This was when I lost it and started laughing so hard that I almost pissed myself. All week at work I've been the 20-something kid trying to defuse a situation caused by a 40-something drunk, and comforting a sobbing 30-something Downs Syndrome guy. And there's nothing else you can do except laugh when you realize that this kind of absurd situation can serve as an appropriate demonstrative example of your life.
Oh, and, 40-something drunk guy followed 20-something kid off the bus and stalked him for three blocks. That can also serve as a demonstrative example of my work life, but it's not as funny.
