The trailer was a bit misleading in that it made you think there would be more Jack and Esther. I did not expect the 2-month jump.
The Gestapo man searching the Cooper house for Gwen's dad was not as bad as I
feared, although I wouldn't have chosen that parallel, since it doesn't add anything. The most chilling might have been the line "I'm sorry for your loss" when Gwen's father is still very obviously living and transported off. It was a very sad scene and it got to me.
I didn't think they would let us see "the blessing" yet, so I was a bit surprised. "The blessing" literally goes through the earth and we now have our answer to Jack's question from last episode of how to create a morphic field "that is as big as the whole planet". The blessing appears to be a sentient being that communicates by making you feel terrible. I immediately asked myself what it might make Oswald Danes feel.
Rex and Esther meet in Buenos Aires and Esther brings the bags with Jack's blood that she's collected with her. This tells us that Jack's blood will be needed to fight the blessing and it's needed from both sides of the planet (Esther knows that too for whatever non-plausible reasons). My first idea was that Jack will jump into the abyss that's created by the blessing and thus reverses its effects somehow (don't ask me how or why this would make sense). It would make a good cliffhanger.
The big question is what's in Jack's blood that makes it so special. Something alien? A specific genetic code?
I'm not any nearer to figure out what kind of agenda the families actually have. Immortality in this form is not anything you would wish for. It can't be the wish for dictatorship either, because that could have been achieved easier. Or is this just a kind of added bonus to the immortality? I prepare that the resolution will not be very satisfying.
In Shanghai Jack's wound starts to bleed again and in that moment I really felt for him. It's as if Jack realizes that he has to die. I might be wrong. Gwen helps him to lie down and, heck, at this moment, I really wanted to see Jack being cared for. I also liked him being hugged by Gwen when they reunite for his sake more than for Gwen's.
