Where do you start in discussing how wrong
this is?
A nine year old girl is repeatedly raped by her step father for three years...until he makes her preganant with twins... Her mother takes her to the doctor, who fears that her slim, nine year old body will be killed if she tries to carry the twins to full term....so they perform an abortion...
...and the Catholic church excommunicates the mother and the doctors...but not the stepfather??
You know, all those internet geeks who wished that peter David would die in a fire because Scans_daily had to move to a different site? This is the situation where hurling abuse such as "die in a fire" is appropriate.
Yeah, sure, I was raised as Protestant, so I've never been a huge fan of the Catholic shurch, but I've known a lot of Catholics over the years, and I've learne dto put aside the prejudices my grandparents tried so hard to pass on to me, but...
...the Vatican's support of the Brizilian church's actions here is an act of EVIL. Pure and simple.
To say "Although the man allegedly committed "a heinous crime ... the abortion - the elimination of an innocent life - was more serious", is one of the most fucked up things I've ever read. In what way is repeatedly raping a girl between the ages of six and nine not "the elimination of an innocent life"??
The doctors and the mother acted to save a life...and, yes, in doing so, two lives were lost (two lives that almost certainly would have been lost anyway...more than likely if the abortion hadn't been performed the girl and the twins would have died). But their motives were pure, their motives were the preservation of life. How can that ever be a worse crime than waht the stepfather did? How?!?
