Multi-platinum rock band Good Charlotte will be honored with this year’s Public Education Award for their song and video, “Hold On,” which conveys a positive message to teenagers who may be depressed and contemplating suicide.
The video held the number one spot last fall on the popular MTV countdown show “Total Request Live,” and was featured prominently on the music video channel, reaching millions of teenage viewers nationwide. The video contains AFSP’s website address as a source for information about depression and suicide, along with hotline numbers for those in crisis.
Since its premiere, the video and its message has received pickup from a number of national media outlets, including CNN, NBC's Today Show and The New York Times. Suicide crisis hotlines have also reported a number of callers referencing the video.
