The loss of Amelia Bones will weigh heavily upon every witch and wizard living under Cornelius Fudge's tyrannical rule. Whether you knew her personally, knew of her, or didn't know who she was at all (in which case, shame on you for being so uninformed about the world that you live in!), her death will mean something to you. Because it wasn't just another passing of a person. Thousands of people die every second in this world. Her death, however, is the first real casualty of this war. The first casualty that can undoubtedly be proved is one, at least. We all know that there were others, but Fudge's constant denial of that fact means that we have to call them alleged murders.
They're growing louder, which invariably means that they are growing stronger. I never met Amelia Bones personally, and only knew a few things about her, but I took the time to research into her life after reading the news of her death. She was fair and honest - all of her rulings and the cases which she presided over went better than many of those in the position before her. She made some very important rulings which would later affect other things, as well, but I don't have time to get into them.
I'm guessing that You-Know-Who's supporters were hoping for the shift in power to work in their favor, but Tiberius Odgen is fairly competent. I can't think of anyone better suited for the position, at least, save Dumbledore, and we know that such a thing would be ridiculous. I can't believe that Fudge even had the audacity to ask, as if the Headmaster isn't busy doing whatever he's doing behind the scenes of this soon-to-be-battle. Surely it's more than what the man in the hideous, radioactive hat is doing. Odgen will do a good job. There's one thing in our favor; Fudge didn't place someone like Umbridge in the position.
I only hope that he does that for the rest. I'm continually scouring the papers because this world is falling to pieces and hardly anyone seems to care about it. Amelia Bones' unfortunate death means that they might now, I believe. I've already seen some do so. I'm not saying that I'm the only one, but the numbers appear to be few. I suppose that it's because we're so sheltered here at Hogwarts. The world outside seems unreal. Anyway, it appears that several people in both high and entry level Ministry positions have gone missing and quit suddenly. The "Help Wanted" section is completely bursting with offers of employment.
My mother sent me another Muggle newspaper at my request as well, and they've finally printed something of suspect. Some Muggles have gone missing. They call it a kidnapping, but there are no suspects, no fingerprints, and nothing was crashed over in the homes - that sounds like wandwork to me. One of the last names sounded familiar, as well. Perhaps it was a Squib.
Johannes Pittiman, controversial author/artist and descendant of Randolphus Pittiman, biographer of Uric the Oddball, has already come out with a book about what's going on right now. I plan to buy it immediately. Has anyone seen his political cartoons? They're wonderful.
Our world is in a sorry state, and I'm not sure how long it will be until a complete collapse. I can only hope that I'm merely being morbid, or exaggerating.
If anyone needs me, I'll be making up a Potions lab that I missed. I was sick last week.
