You know, I've been scouring The Daily Prophet for an article on the disappearance of that Dorny, and I haven't seen a single syllable in reference to it. The Ministry is really quite good at keeping such matters under wraps. There are really only two explanations for her disappearance. The first one being that she had permission to leave Hogwarts and transfer to another school (presumably Durmstrang), and the second, well, that's quite obvious. If she didn't have permission, she must have snuck out, considering the ban that was placed upon students' straying from the castle grounds before her "departure." She would have to be involved in something very off to feel the need to leave and risk encountering one of Dumbledore's famous barriers.
And we all know what her views are. I highly doubt that she simply transferred to Durmstrang or Beauxbatons, or whatever the name of that Brazilian school is (Not that it matters; imagine her trying to get a tan). I've seen the girl's journal, and she would have been boasting for paragraphs and paragraphs about how fortunate she was to leave such a "filthy" place. It's incredibly disgusting, and while I can understand that the Ministry would not want to rouse fear in parents by admitting the possibility that there are followers of You-Know-Who actually inside Hogwarts School, it would certainly be beneficial to have the entirety of the magical community on the lookout for her. The public cannot be sheltered forever. Secrets are almost always exposed, and with hundreds of people looking for them? Everyone knows that we're not being told all we should. Ignorance may be bliss, but it can be even more dangerous than knowledge when existing at an inopportune time.
Oh, to the subject line of my entry. Though I found nothing in relation to Bridgette Dorny, the "saturnine Slytherin," in the Prophet, I have found a rather interesting feature on Ragnok the Pigeon-Toed, author of Little People, Big Plans, and (naturally) a goblin rights activist. Apparently he held a rally (for goblin rights, naturally) in Gringott's after closing time. During the rally, he broke the law created by Clause 3 of the Code of Wand Use (no non-human creature is permitted a wand). Somehow, Ragnok had acquired several wands (many suspect that he bought them off of "Honest Willy" Wagstaff, the street peddler who was once selling substandard wands to the general public), and began to hand them out to the hundreds of goblins who had already been riled up by the rally. Sparks flew, literally. One goblin named Willis the Snaggletoothed (no joke) lost a hand. No serious damage to the building was sustained, but it took many Aurors to stun all of the goblins into submission and collect the wands. Ragnok is being charged for inciting such immediate lawless action as well as for breaking the laws of the Code of Wand Use. As the majority of those goblins attending the rally work at Gringott's and there were seventy to one hundred there, they couldn't very well throw them all into prison, or the bank would be short several employees. Instead, each goblin who was identified (many escaped in the chaos, with their identities unknown) will be fined severely instead, a harsh punishment in itself to goblins. "We all know how they love their money," said Cuthbert Mockridge, from the Goblin Liason Office. Those stereotypes are getting us nowhere. Who doesn't love money?
While I disagree with what Ragnok did (mob mentality is a horrible thing, and he didn't need to encourage their anger before giving them wands), I really think that the laws of our society are quite behind the times. Goblins are as intelligent as humans, sometimes moreso, and if some sort of treaty could be established, I don't see why they couldn't be allowed wands. It's going to happen sooner or later (I should hope), so why not sooner? Goblins haven't a problem standing up to humans (we have, after all, read of more goblin rebellions than we cared to in History of Magic), and one day, the battles are going to be in their favor. It would be better to live peacefully with them as equals rather than looking upon them with comtempt whilst they stew over years of prejudice against them. Everyone knows of the subversive goblin groups who work in secret against the Ministry. We should appeal to their sense of belonging before they decide to fight against us. With You-Know-Who ("allegedly") on the loose, we have enough problems without creating even more enemies.
Boy, was that a lengthy entry! Now I'm hungry. Who wants to come to the kitchens with me?
