Vice-Principal Jones' office hours [Friday]

Aug 01, 2008 21:36

Harriet had made a phone call and left a message this morning, requesting a certain someone come and see her today.

While she waited, she worked on organising the move to the cabins. There was coffee brewing, and she'd actually stopped at the bakery on her way in, so there were raisin scones, enough that any visitor needn't go hungry.

Andrew walked up to the open door and cleared his throat, looking terribly uncomfortable.

"Come in, Mr Wells," Harriet said without looking up. "Have a seat."

She looked up at that, considering him, and then she smiled, just a little bit. "I can see that," she said, not unkindly. "Would you like a cup of tea, or would you rather just get this over with as quickly as possible so you can escape?"

"Let's just do it like a band aid," he said, worried about what this might be.

"I thought you might say that." Harriet set down her pen and steepled her fingers. "You've impressed me, Mr Wells. I expected you to ignore your confinement, or at least to try, and you didn't. You've been keeping a low profile, and seem to be genuinely remorseful for your actions. I will still be keeping a close eye on you, and should anyone make you an offer that sounds oto good to be true, I expect you to be in my office telling me about it immediately, but your confinement is lifted."

That spot on his knee was suddenly much less interesting. "Really? Like what part? I can leave my room now? Can I leave the dorm? I was hoping to get out and see Australia. It's always been one of my favorite continents."

"All of it," she replied. "You can leave your rooms, leave the dorms, leave the island, though I'd prefer if you didn't do that on your own."

"Oh, I won't," he said quickly, standing. "I would hug you, but that seems like crossing the line, so..." He stuck out his hand for a shake.

Harriet hid her smile and shook his hand. "I have a great deal of faith in you, Mr Wells," she said quietly. "I trust you won't let me down."

"I promise," he said, turning towards the door. "Thank you. Thank you very much."

He felt the need to leave very quickly, before she saw his emotions get the best of him.

"You're welcome," she said. "Now off with you, go have fun." And she bent her head back over her paperwork, so he could escape without an audience.
