Writing meme- Qs 12, 13 & 14

Questions can be found here

Looks like I've fallen behind again, oops! But my answers to these are really short so:

12 - Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

No. I can kind of see the appeal of the idea, but it’s not for me.

13 - Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

I try and stick to canon as much as possible, but sometimes fanon just makes more sense to me. Big fan of Denial (mainly Highlander and Torchwood), so I happily go in the opposite direction of canon in those instances though! I prefer my fanon to fill in the gaps in canon rather than contradict it though, they don’t need to be mutually exclusive.

My favourite bit of fanon is Highlander fanon about Quickenings, specifically the idea that Kronos was once good but took a Dark Quickening and that Darius took a Light Quickening in Paris.

14 - Ratings - how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?

I think mostly I write G/PG-13 but I will go higher if the story calls for it. I’m always worried I’ve rated things wrong - I’m pretty liberal about swearing/sex/violence so I often end up rating probably higher than needed to prevent offending anyone!

From my own point of view, I'm not uncomfortable with any rating and part of why I write is to challenge myself as a writer so I'm always willing to go to a different place if someone asks or the story demands it.

I don't write explicit sex often, but that's because I think I'm not very good at writing it! Maybe I need more practise!
