I was nearly bawling my eyes out too. I don't think I moved the entire time it was on. I was frozen. Disbelief dropping my jaw to the floor.
The only disappointment for me was Dean not jumping into the cage with Sam. See, the Dean I know would have. Would have grabbed Sam and gone in with him. Together. Even my 12 year old son was yelling, "GO DEAN!!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!?"
I agreed with him. I would have loved to have seen that. Then restored-angel Cas pulls both boys out together. Leaves them together. Forever.
But I also had to explain to him the budgetary limitations of this show. Showing a big fight in Hell between the boys and Lucifer, the REAL SCARY version of Lucifer, would have been too much. Mores the pity of their wretched budget. Ah well...
I didn't mind Lisa either. She wasn't his true love, she was an openly caring woman who knew about what Dean did and accepted him for what he was. Who wanted to help. To reach out and draw him in. I liked her.
Even if she will be gone by the first episode of season 6... my guess.
Anywho, it all made sense in some ways, but writing Dean just sitting there, watching Sam jump in all alone, when he was so lost. Oh God, they both were so lost and watching one another slip away.
You know, I was thinking the same thing! For a small moment I was convinced that Dean would jump in with Sam... and I like to believe that he thought about it - I really think he did. But then... well. He knows what it's like down there and he's human. I guess the painful memories were enough to keep him from jumping after Sam. In retrospect, I'm glad he didn't do it.
Aw, shit. I've been a bawling mess all night :( I don't think it is going to get better any time soon. I have no idea how I am going to survive an apple-pie day at work today! O_O
