I can feel it's a curse. But, resisting it is giving me a headache.
The Chants were important, I think. They tended to have a lot of magic. That's how Christopher tells it, but since my parents were disowned, I never knew about any of that.
My parents were first cousins, both Chants, and it's very unlucky for cousins to marry. Chrestomanci offered to make sure their children had no magic, but father must not have liked that, because, I suppose, he was very rude. So Chrestomanci didn't help later.
After my parents drowned, Mrs. Sharpe took care of Gwendolen and me. Gwendolen's my older sister. She's in the City. She's always had a lot of talent, but she also used my magic. We went to live with Chrestomanci eventually. Oh, he's our cousin, too.
Gwendolen didn't like it, so she went to another world and forced all the other Gwendolens to move. So Janet came, and she's my sister in my world.
I think I'm supposed to say more, but since Christopher is Chrestomanci, it'd be bad for his time if I went into his family.
But, I think Klartch and Syracuse count, too.
