I really loved this meta on Lex. He's my favourite character, and I absolutely adore him.

I especially liked your take on Lex's motives, his striving for love, his guilt and his ego, which combine to explain his behaviour.

I agree that Smallville's Lex can't be judged by the Lex seen elsewhere in canon, he's too complex to be painted with the evil villian brush.

Thanks for a gorgeous essay.

Thank you very much for reading!

I could have written a book, I think, on Lex's weaknesses and strengths and how they both work against him. I truly believe he is one of the most fascinating and complex characters on TV today.

Thanks, again!

I love it. The last part really struck a cord. I sometimes feel that people do judge Lex by what we have seen in comics and movies. The Lex of Smallville is a different animal and will for sure turn out differently than any Lex we've seen in the past.

Great job.

Nothing upsets me more than people who can't seem to focus on the Lex of Smallville, and instead continually point to the future. And yet, these same people want us to accept the Clark of Smallville, who isn't yet Superman. If you go with one, you have to go with the other as well. I, too, refuse to believe that this Lex - the one they've so clearly given us - could possibly be like any of his counterparts in the future.

Thanks, honey!

*G* One of these days you are going to have to tutor me in the fine art of feedback! ;)

I imagine it was none too easy to step out of the role as Lex's primary defender and into the role of Lex's analyst.

Dude, you have no idea. I kept wanting to write something like 'Because he's my perfect woobie, dammit! And you have to love him because he needs it!!!' LOL

all these things motivate and shape a complex man who is still learning and growing and moving towards his destiny. And they're all why I love him. I completely agree with MR every time he makes the comment about how difficult it is to struggle and always try to do the right thing when your innate nature wants to do the opposite. When your own father is pushing you to do the opposite. And Lex *does* try. I mean, hell, I would have gone off on Jonathan Kent long ago. Probably would have punched him in the mouth early on in season one! Same goes for Pete. And if anyone treated me the way Clark has treated Lex - accusations of murder and theft, lies - my revenge would ( ... )

It's odd but as I wrote this, I found that I love Lex for his weaknesses even more than his strengths. It really helped me to understand why I'm so fascinated by him and love him far more than anyone else on Smallville.

Thank you for your comments, sweetie!

*hugs*
