Title: We Can Name it Later Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis Character: John Sheppard Author: _medley_ Spoilers for: Pretty much all of seasons one and two Notes: Quotes are from the transcripts on www.twiztv.com/scripts/atlantis
Thank you! I certainly agree that there is a lot going on beyond what he lets people see, and that fascinates me. I tend to like the fic that shows some of that complexity. The last half of Season two definitely shows the dark side of that determination to protect at all costs. I can't wait to see where they're going with it.
When I was re-watching season one to write this essay, though, I kept getting distracted by the dorkiness. :)
Yeah, I think my love of dark!John comes a lot more from fanon that anything else- the John Sheppard Needs Lots and Lots of Therapy school of thought. But yes, I definitely hope we get to see some fallout from season 2, for all the characters.

He. Yeah, I think I was kind of sold on him from the moment he trips over that tree in Rising. Oh John.
Hee! I love that Joe tripped and they left it in. I'm glad you mentioned "Nondisclosure Agreement." I'd forgotten about that one, but it's in my memories now.
It's a scary side of him, and there are people who have said that this is the real John Sheppard, that the charm and goofiness are a cover. While I think some of the charm he exudes upon meeting people is an act, it's mostly a way of setting people at ease, of calming a tense situation down. I also think it's practically automatic, but not really fake. As pentapus says, he's "playing harmless." If they underestimate him a little because of it, that's good too.
Zelenka's Remus, I think, since Remus was the quiet one, the "good" one. But that would mean that Rodney would have to be either James or Peter, and neither of those works. Hmmm.
That essay was interesting to read and thought provoking. I like how you highlight that the hero aspects of John could get boring without his goofier side. You also summed up his relationship with Rodney very well.

Especially this bit:

I like that view point.

I love that icon. SGA Marauders--all too likely, with Atlantis' full cooperation, of course...
