Four Explosions [Text] I'm just makin' my play

Jun 08, 2010 20:33

I'm not usually given to jumping when someone says the word but the topic of equivalence got me to thinking:

The Best Weapon is the One You Only Have to Fire Once )

tony is a philosopher, stark industries, tony is ironman, tony is throwing a party

So people stopped fighting and became "equal" because your weapon scares them?

That sounds awfully familiar.

In a way. Of course there's always someone who thinks they're stronger but those threats are minimal. In my world we're currently in our longest run of world peace.

Something similar happen in your world?

So you've essentially scared them into world peace. What'll happen when someone tries to duplicate your weapon and succeeds? Are you going to try to build a bigger and better one?

Something very similar, yes. But the weapon was a man, and he couldn't be duplicated. And even he couldn't stop the threats of nuclear war.

Someone did. I stopped him. With some help from some friends.

I'm sure it's not a permanent solution but it's the best one we've got right now.

And what happens when you're too late and you and your friends aren't able to stop the next one?

Sorry, I'm just curious about your methods.

Then the world is safer for longer than it was without me and my friends.

Of course you are. No need to apologize.

Shame humanity's too fixated on killing each other off. You would've had something going for you if your means of peace were permanent.

Too bad there's never a set way, but at least your methods are more sound than...others I know.

Finally someone who calls it for what it is. Yes.

Thank you. Although obviously there are those that disagree with us both. I don't believe I know you. Tony Stark.

You don't. Laurie Juspeczyk.

What is Iron Man, anyway?

Pleasure to meet you, Laurie.

I am Iron Man. Iron Man is me. It's a mechanical, weaponized extension of me.

It's an armored suit that can fly and shoot blasts of energy as well as equipped with small missiles, guns, onboard computer etc etc.

So you're a superhero. A high-tech one, but I've known a few heroes who rely on their tech to get them through the job.

It's nice to meet you too, Tony.

I'm not really the hero--oh alright if you must. Hero could be an adequate description if it weren't for everything else.

Don't worry, the heroes back at home aren't exactly much of the heroic type, either. Majority of them are either assholes or psychos.

Vigilante would've been a better word, I guess.

Not terribly flattering categories to put oneself into. Are you a superhero?

No. I like hero. I just protest to make myself seem humble. We should get that out of the way right now. I'm not.

Something like that, but costumed vigilante fits me better. I'm not in either of those categories though, and I didn't even want the title.

Great, a man with an ego. Haven't met one of those before.

Then why did you pick it up?

Yes we are few and far between. I'm aware of that. [Sarcasm. Have some]
