It's National Coming Out Day. I
posted at length about it last year. This year I just want to tell you all something. My company, my workplace, decided that it was important to be represented at Boston Pride this year. We're not
google or anything. It was a last minute decision, there were no adorable
t-shirts with pair-bonded robots on them. Just us, and a bunch of beads in our company colours.
I think the thing I liked best was that I got to come all the way out as bi to a few people who already knew I was an ally and assumed that was why I was there. I mean, apart from the part where this was a visible statement by my company that people like us matter to them.
Fuck me, I still don't really know what the point of this post is. Except to say that some good stuff happens. A company in MA choosing to be more supportive of LGBTQ rights might not be a huge deal, but it counts for something. Sometimes with the news out there of how people think I'm an abomination is a lot to deal with, so yeah. My company's shifted from "we're okay, you're okay but kind of invisible" to
"Diversity! Just the thought it makes these white people smile." Oh, and being part of legal action challenging DOMA, which doesn't suck at all.
And I'm more and more comfortable about living a lot of bits of my life out in the open, which is great. I would want that for everyone. The people who really matter to me accept me and love me for who I am, and that is beyond price.
