Rantypants.
Gacked from
pauraque. Including title. :)
1. Comment with any subject that you would like me to rant on, with possible swearing involved. Any subject - but notice you might want me to rant *against* the subject and OMG I rant *for* it.
2. Watch my journal for your rant.
3. Post this in your own journal, so that you may rant for others.
Incidentally, one social misfit on p's flist lovely friend of pauraque's requested a rant on the topic "rats," so watch that space. It was not I, BTW; I requested a rant on the topic of Sayid, and I am most curious as to what will come out of it.

Speaking of rants: it's Tuesday, and I hate the bastard as much as ever, though now I more scared of him than I used to be. So a couple of circulating political tidbits.
1)
A friend of mine works in the office of the mayor of a major (but not huge) American city. Someone else she knows, not the mayor, brought back the following report:
Last week, at the US Conference of Mayor's meeting, HUD secretary Alfonso Jackson came to speak to the assembled masses on two separate occasions. At both, he talked about how how the Administration's tax cut, the war, Social Security and their desire to do more in outer space are going to cut into the Community Development Block Grants that, you know, fund social services and housing for low- and moderate-income Americans, mainly those who live in cities. He said that it would be "reasonable" to expect a 50% cut in the average block grant. He also said that because Bush is "not running for anything" and because "we're in charge" of the House and the Senate, that "there'll be little negotiation room."
Also, in case my colleagues missed it the first time around, he reiterated his belief that "Poverty is a state of mind."
2)
Another friend (
drcalamari, though he can't be persuaded to use his LJ) brings the following to our attention:
As democracy is perfected, the office of President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
-- H.L. Mencken (1880-1956)

ETA: Stop the presses. Did you know what Tom Lehrer looks like? For some reason I thought I did, and it was
nothing like this.
That's Tom Jones, you idiot, not Tom Lehrer! No, sorry, it's Tom Lehrer. Unless AMG is playing a joke on me.
And now the eternal question: Frontline or Veronica Mars?
