my first court experience

Sep 04, 2007 18:25

court was painful today in several ways:

1) i sat on a hard wooden bench with no cushion other than my natural mushy ass for about 6 hours (lunch and other breaks not counted)

2) the defense's opening statement was so filled with false statements that me and several other ex-classmates shot "wtf!" looks at each other through the whole thing. i just kept thinking, "i object!"

3) they got to 2 witnesses today, and both of their testimonies were excruciating: the first witness was excruciating due to the defense's constant mis-speaking, and the second was excruciating because of the way he danced around questions instead of answering them, and when he did, he gave such absurd answers that i wondered how this guy has survived to be almost 50.

oh, and a large chunk of questioning the second witness involved reading a few lines from some cpr training manual and asking the witness "did i read that correctly" over and over and over again.

4) the second witness was on the stand so long, we ended for the day before they started cross-examinations. we have to start with him tomorrow! wah!

5) they only got through 2 witnesses! that means i have to go back tomorrow, and, i guess, if they don't get to me for some reason, maybe the rest of the damn week 'til they do. 6 more hours every day of that damn bench. i'm thinking about taking a pillow tomorrow...

6) since i was running late this morning, i had to park in the first lot i found. this left me paying $22 for parking today. thankfully, we're starting a half hour later tomorrow, so even if i'm running late again, i'll still have more time to find better parking and allow for walk time.
