So it's official, that which we referred to as "Swine Flu" has been officially renamed by the WHO and is henceforth to be known as Influenza A (H1N1). A mouthful, yes, but well, it's ambiguous in that it offends no sensitivities and it's succinct in that it is calling a spade a spade.
With Orange Alert in place, there were even more restrictions and controls in place at work, and most were reluctantly and grudgingly accepted by patients and their companions.
The purpose is for their benefit and safety, but these little inconveniences and interventions were a hard pill to swallow for most, who seemed to live in a selfish world which revolved around themselves. It was not a matter of them infecting others so long as others did not infect them. Double standards be damned.
Talking about living in heads, I arranged to meet my pool guy in what was the third "date" in our pseudo relationship where I lived out my fake life in this make-belief world. I know it's unrealistic and unrequited but allow me indulgence in my cheap thrill. Besides, after a day of being all ensconced in PPE, seeing that much show of skin in his de rigeur vest and shorts PT-kit look made my day that much more bearable. Some consolation.
As Eponine sang, "The city goes to bed, and I can live inside my head... On my own, pretending he's beside me..."
swine flu,
