It was today that I saw the silver lining.
It was today that I saw hope.
Who would have thought that lj would be so beneficial!
I never knew I would make friends with someone in Ukraine.
Once I did I never thought that I would ever go this far.
At first I only just wanted to be friends just because I wanted to.
I never thought that this would bring me advantages.
And who would ever have thought that news about Russia and Ukraine would pop out in the local news!
And so because my curiosity got the better of me, I decided to look up more information about Ukraine, Kharkov in particular, so that I would be better informed.
As I slowly trudged my way through website after website, it finally dawned on me to look up universities.
Lo and behold!
I found the Kharkov National University, famous for its science departments (three professors there were Nobel Prize winners and this university is the only one in Ukraine to have won Nobel Prizes), and what even astounded me even more.....the tuition fees and living fees. It was outrageous. Every year, according to USD, it was only $2300 to study Biology and several other types of sciences. As for living....it left me wholly speechless, $15-20 for school hostel, $25-30 for renting a room in the city, and $35 to rent a two bedroom apartment!!!! (these were for every month)
I was beyond astounded.
This had to be it. I never thought that going to a university abroad would be so inexpensive!
I guess I have to thank my lucky stars that I live in the country whose money value is the largest (besides UK pounds).
I really need to save up and work here before I make attempts to apply for universities....
Ok...let's just calculate the fees for tuition and living.
$2300+($20*12)=$2540/year
So then....BA=4 years=$10160
MA=$15240
PHD=$25400
This is just a rough estimation.
Ok...now calculating how much time and how many hours I must work in order to make that amount.
4 hours a day
5 days a week
$8 an hour
So that makes
20 hours a week
80 hours a month
$640 a month
$7680 a year
Then...that means that in order for me to pay up til a masters degree I'll have to work roughly 3 years.
So then that means I'll still have to go to VC, but hopefully for just one year.
And of course I'll have to work more hours because I'll still have VC books to maybe pay for, and of course if I go to the Kharkov National University, the fees don't include food and others.....
*sigh*
I am very optimistic today, and it probably has made me over optimistic.
But we'll see.
Now I really have a dream of where to go to college.
Not just far away from home by a couple hundred of miles.
Not just out of state.
Not just out of the nation.
Not just out of the country.
But out of the CONTINENT!!!!
God please help me along the way.
I send my deepest thanks.
