✧ NAME: (Captain) Jack Sparrow
✧ SERIES: Pirates of the Caribbean.
✧ HISTORY:
WIKI LINK ✧ TIMELINE: After the climax of the most recent movie, "On Stranger Tides."
✧ PERSONALITY: Jack, to me, is the walking conundrum. Though he’s not entirely inscrutable, but it requires spending a lot of time in his company, weighing the good with the bad, overanalyzing everything - and then, he changes and you still don’t know if you’re right or if you’re wrong.
Jack doesn’t really take the thoughts and feelings of anyone else into consideration when he’s doing something. Although it would be a lie to say that he didn’t care at all, his main goals only benefit himself. He’s always watching out for himself and trying to find what he can and cannot gain from any impending situation in which he has been placed.
He’s a proud man: he’s proud of his accomplishments and, sometimes, even his failings. He’s also selfish and crass. He has a big head and sometimes the rest of his body, most certainly his mouth, can’t keep up with it. He spits game at people, tangling them in a dangerous web that he weaves. He cares not if he’s demoralizing them or putting them in danger. It’s all about Jack and how he can play his cards in a situation and still get out absolutely scot-free. He’s an innate liar but knows how to use just enough of the truth to get what he wants or needs from a person. He poses it as a give and take situation most of the time, but it’s normally the opposite, with you giving and him taking. He doesn’t wait on anyone and that is made clear by the way that he treats Will: as an object instead of a friend, whether he believes that Will is any ally or not. The boy is his puppet.
Jack thinks he’s God’s gift to…well, everything. He has views of himself that no one else seems to see. He thinks himself amazing in almost every aspect. “Ho Ho! I can do this!” and, “Ho Ho! I had you there, didn’t I?” He thinks he’s truly insurmountable, someone precious to whom everyone pay interest or acknowledgement. His line, “You will all remember this as the day that you ALMOST caught Captain Jack Sparrow,” shows that he’s not only pig-headed but thinks himself something of a local celebrity. With how many heads he turns, and negative relationships he’s had, it may not be far from the truth.
Jack Sparrow looks at things differently than normal people - which doesn’t say his methods are genius, just unorthodox. His plans are normally very reckless and outside-of-the-box and when someone questions him, he invalidates their statement by saying that’s the reason no one will expect it. His arguments are silly but valid and he knows how to word things to make them sound appetizing or appealing to the person he’s trying to con and manipulate. (As said in the above category.)
Despite being loud and eccentric in his actions, Jack is also very aloof in the way he handles things. You wouldn’t think - by analyzing the situations into and out of which he’s gotten himself - he goes about things the right way. He just stays on course for what works with him and it’s a steady and unsteady path at the same time. There are pros and cons that he weighs out in his head but discusses with no one.
Jack, despite mumbling and walking around like a drunkard is something of a well taught man: he often uses surprisingly big words. Other times he has no idea what you’re saying and shrugs it off as some pompous form of aristocratic trickery. There’s really no solid ground. He has street smarts, but no common sense. Book smarts come out in his sarcasm from time to time but there’s really no detailed explanation at all of how they ended up there in the first place. It’s not like Jack picks up a book at random and learns because he wants to. Most genuine phrases and words were likely to have been nabbed or borrowed from other people.
It would be a lie to say that Jack doesn’t learn from his mistakes; he does, but he doesn’t take the entire ordeal into consideration. Situations from the past always end up having a way of bubbling up once more into the present. Most of the time he uses the knowledge from past situations to help with his current problem, like the memories of how a person works and doesn’t work and how they do things. This is another example of the manipulative way that he does things.
Jack is an odd character, from the way that carries himself to the way that he words things. His notions are generally very far-fetched, something you certainly don’t see every day, and it makes you question his sanity on one hand, but unable to help but like him on the other. There’s a certain uniqueness to him that draws others near - some for amusement, some for respect and then others just because they find him interesting to be around. (Well, when he isn’t trying to hold their fate in his hands.)
Jack gesticulates when he speaks - more so than any normal person. He waves his arms, bows his legs. It’s hard to tell if this a learned trait, habitual, or if he really thinks that it helps his explanation. I’d argue that he spends so much time drunk that acting like this is commonplace but it certainly makes him a laugh to talk to - if he’ll give you the time of day.
He mumbles a lot when he speaks, and never annunciates. At times it’s hard to understand him and with him trailing off every so often it’s a wonder how anyone can keep up with his thought processes. As well as that, he has no etiquette. Things like table-manners, boundaries - anything of that sort escapes him, as well as basic hygiene and overall politeness. Most would call him crude.
And then yet again there’s that strange charisma, which, despite all of that, makes you want to be around him - even against your better judgment.
Jack, is no stranger to fun or humor, like any other pirate before him. He makes jokes and overall, despite his crassness, has fun and carries this jovial sense of completeness with him wherever he goes. This isn’t to say that all of his jokes are appreciated by the company that he’s in, but that doesn’t bother him. He’s a very go-out-laughing-and-swinging type of guy. He tries not to take himself or anything else too seriously.
Jack likes company and he likes to be in the company of diverse people. He finds them amusing and interesting, quite possibly trying to learn something from them but not going as far as to alter himself for their approval. He’s used to large open festivities and parties that usually end up in everyone fighting and possibly even a few people dying. Because of this, his sense of humor is not only bold but indiscriminate. He doesn’t target any one person with his jokes, and tends to treat all of his company pretty fairly in that aspect.
Back to not taking himself too seriously: as well as that, Jack doesn’t take any particular situation too seriously. He sees comedy in most things that others would not - like a child, you could say. He thinks life is too short to be wasted worrying or over analyzing every tiny, insignificant detail. He just rolls with the punches and that helps him get by without going into a mid-life crisis or dying of stroke. (More likely liver failure, but this is just me being snarky.)
✧ ABILITIES/POWERS: Jack doesn’t have anything of real value as far as “powers” go. He’s human through and through.
If we’re talking abilities he’s recklessly devious and incredibly manipulative. He knows exactly what to say and what not to say to get himself out of unwelcome situations. Despite being a drunkard he’s in rather good shape, as most who captain boats and sale the seas are - most. He’s a talented sword fighter and isn’t afraid to go out completely on a limb - whether physically, verbally, or emotionally to get what he wants. And that means hopping off of balconies, soaring through the air on rope and even purposefully cursing himself with the Aztec gold.
It doesn’t always work, but he’ll do it anyway.

lastvoyages Jack missed the beach. Strolling on the sand and not running for your life away from crazed primitive beings with spears. He missed the pubs, the bar fights, the wenches - and all of this newfound technology stuff was beginning to wear on his mind. Not that he could ACTUALLY comprehend it. People apparently walked around listening to music on their heads or typed on those weird electronic sideways books. He wanted nothing to do with it. Give him rum, a nice place to sit and a breath of fresh air - he’d be fine.
That’s what he was doing now. Sitting in the CES trying to deny the knowledge that where he was wasn’t actually real. His back was sitting against a palm tree and he held not a bottle but a coconut in his palm. Apparently the pub was for the “warden-types” only. He didn’t even know what a warden was per say. You were just left in a cell to rot for the most part. At least, that’s what he remembered of it. Grabbing a bone from the nearest skeleton, trying to get the dog. That damn dog.
He was bored, which was normal. There was no peril, no sword-fighting and no loud banter or music. Just the sounds of the waves slapping along the shore. He founds solace in them but he didn’t like being so dormant. He was playing with fantasies in his head. Wondering that if he hopped in the fake ocean and swam - if it would take him anywhere or if he’d just end up with his face smashed up against whatever magic wall made this thing work.
Ah, well, there were worst things - he assumed. Like spending ten years on the flying Dutchman. Or being a eunuch. Just because he didn’t comprehend where he was, didn’t mean that he didn’t welcome it - at least somewhat.
